Joseph John Matijevic is an American professional baseball first baseman who currently plays for the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball. He was born on November 14, 1995, in the United States.

He made his MLB debut in 2022. Baseball and basketball were two of Matijevic’s favourite sports to play while he was a student at Norwin High School in North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.

In the 22nd round of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft, the Boston Red Sox chose him to play shortstop for their team. He decided not to sign and instead enrolled at the University of Arizona, where he later became a member of the Arizona Wildcats baseball team and played collegiate baseball.



Matijevic participated in collegiate summer baseball with the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod Baseball League in both 2015 and 2016. During his time with the Falmouth Commodores, he was recognized as a league all-star in 2015.

In the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft, the Houston Astros picked Matijevic with the 75th overall pick in the draft. The Tri-City ValleyCats, who play in the Class A-Short Season New York-Penn League, were the team that he was sent to.

In 2018, he was a member of not one but two separate clubs in the minor leagues before getting called up to play for the Buies Creek Astros.

After failing the second test for substance abuse on April 30, he was given a suspension that would keep him out of play for the next 50 games.
