Simmons asked the NCAA if he could keep playing for the sixth year, but the NCAA said no. Simmons signed a contract with the Oakland Raiders on April 29, 2017, and then joined the team that day.
He was one of the players who got cut at the end of training camp, but he was later brought back to the team on the practice squad.
Simmons played his first game in the National Football League (NFL) on September 30, 2018, against the Arizona Cardinals. He played in six games and started three of them at right guard.
