American pitcher Justin Brooks Verlander, who plays for the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball, was born on February 20, 1983. (MLB). He has also represented the Detroit Tigers in MLB.

Verlander is a Virginia native of Manakin-Sabot. Manakin-Sabot is an unincorporated hamlet in Goochland County, Virginia, made up of the communities of Manakin and Sabot. It is situated in Piedmont, northwest of Richmond, and is a part of the Greater Richmond area.

Verlander played college baseball for the Monarchs while attending Old Dominion University. Verlander aided in the silver-medal victory for the American national team.

He is frequently recognized as one of the most accomplished pitchers in history as well as one of the most accomplished players of his period.

Verlander was taken by the Tigers with the second overall choice in the 2004 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut in 2005 with the Tigers, where he spent 12 years as their ace in the starting rotation and an integral part of their four consecutive American League (AL) Central division titles.

Before the 2017 trade deadline, the Tigers traded Verlander to the Astros, and before the postseason, he had won all five of his starts. As the Astros won the 2017 World Series, he was named ALCS MVP and shared the Babe Ruth Award.
