During his senior year, Williams racked up 32 tackles, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, four rushing scores, and four receiving touchdowns. Williams was a member of the Pittsburgh Panthers from 2010 to 2013.

Although Williams was not selected in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers both invited him to try out.

Williams turned down the chance to go to the rookie camp of the Pittsburgh Steelers in order to meet up with Jeff Hafley, the defensive backs coach for the Cleveland Browns, who previously served as Williams’ position coach at Pitt and recruited him out of high school.

Williams was signed by the San Francisco 49ers on February 21, 2017, to a one-year, $615,000 contract with a $75,000 signing bonus. His position coach at the Cleveland Browns and at Pitt, Jeff Hafley, is now the defensive backs coach for the San Francisco 49ers.
