After migrating to the United States, he became known as Max Kepler and had a successful professional debut. He started in center field and batted second for the GCL Twins on Opening Day, 2010, on June 21.
A triple, a run, and three RBIs put him at 3 for 5. He slugged .287 in 37 games during his rookie campaign. At Elizabethton Twins, he batted.262 with 50 at-bats in the Appalachian League in 2011.
The following season, he hit his first professional home run, and he followed that up with 10 more in 2012, when he repeated the level and batted .297/.387/.539 with 40 runs scored and 49 RBIs in 59 games.
The Twins were confident that he could be a remarkable player, despite the fact that he would likely require more time to develop than the normal prospect because of his history.
While in Germany he had never met a pitcher who threw above 80mph, in the United States he had never encountered a pitcher who could do so. I watched someone throw 98 with no control, and that scared the hell out of me.
A year later, he made his debut in a full season of professional baseball with the Cedar Rapids Kernels of the Midwest League in 2013. Although he appeared in 67 games, his hitting average dropped to .237 with nine home runs and 40 RBIs.
The Twins still promoted him to the Florida State League’s Fort Myers Miracle in 2014, where he still pitches.
During that year, he made a significant leap forward, improving his batting average to .264 in 102 games while smacking 20 doubles, five home run blasts, and totaling 59 RBI and 53 runs scored, restoring his prospect status.
