Because of an injury he received after being placed on injured reserve on February 6, 2021, Gay was unable to play in Super Bowl LV. Gay’s ailment prevented him from participating in the game.

As a consequence of Gay’s arrest in January 2022 and his breach of the personal conduct policy of the National Football League (NFL), the NFL handed him a personal conduct policy violation penalty.
