Gary Sánchez Herrera is a Dominican professional baseball catcher for the Minnesota Twins of Major League Baseball. He was born on December 2, 1992. In 2015, he had his Major League Baseball debut with the New York Yankees.

Sanchez was born in Santo Domingo in Districto Nacional,Dominican Republic.Sánchez brought up in the Dominican Republic’s La Victoria.

His parents divorced while he was a child, and he, his three brothers, and one sister were nurtured by their mother, Orquidia Herrera, and their grandmother Agustina Pena, despite seeing their father on a regular basis. Miguel Sánchez, one of his brothers, was a member of the Seattle Mariners organization.

In August 2016, he was selected Rookie of the Month and Player of the Month by the American League. Despite only appearing in 53 games, Sánchez got a record rookie debut in 2016, ranking second in Rookie of the Year voting.

In 2017, he was named an All-Star and a Silver Slugger. Sánchez is the quickest catcher to hit 100 home runs in MLB history.  Sanchez signed a contract worth $3 million with the New York Yankees as an international free agent in July 2009.

Sánchez was traded to the Minnesota Twins on March 13, 2022, along with Gio Urshela, for Josh Donaldson, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, and Ben Rortvedt.

He has two daughters with his wife, Sahaira. Sánchez attributes his metamorphosis from a player who was “going through the motions” early in his professional career to one who is praised for his work ethic to his daughter’s birth
