Merrifield didn’t stay long in Omaha, and by the start of the regular season, he was back with the Royals. Whit finally settled in as the Royals’ leadoff hitter, a job he’s held for the past two months.

In 307 at-bats, he hit 293/.337/.489 with ten homers and 41 RBI. He’s shown to be the reliable second baseman the Royals have been looking for, which is a huge comfort given the amount of talent the club could lose this winter.
