Teoscar Hernandez debuted in the major leagues in 2011, after being signed by Houston Astros scout Felix Francisco on February 11th of that year.

The lightning-quick outfielder stole 16 bases in his rookie season and 11 the next year. 

In 2013, he hit 13 home runs, stole 24 bases, scored 84 runs, hit 37 doubles, and drove in 85 runs for the Quad Cities River Bandits, and in 2014, he hit 21 home runs, stole 33 bases, scored 84 runs, hit 37 doubles, and drove in 85 runs for the Lancaster JetHawks and Corpus Christi Hooks in 119 games.

In the 2015 Premier 12, he hit .333/.375/.600 with three runs in four games for the Dominican national team; in the field, he had ten putouts, one assist, and no mistakes.

He hit a home run against Zeke Spruill of the United States and a ground-rule double against Yasuhiro Ogawa of Japan.

 

On August 12, 2016, against the Toronto Blue Jays, he made his major league debut with the Astros. That day, he went 2 for 4 with a solo home run in the sixth inning off Francisco Liriano in a 5-3 victory.

He batted .230 with four home runs and 11 RBIs in 41 at-bats. Except for a brief stint as a defensive substitution in the outfield on April 25th, he spent the entire first half of 2017 in the minors.

He hit .279 with 20 doubles, 12 home runs, and 44 RBIs in 79 games with the Fresno Grizzlies.

He was dealt to the Toronto Blue Jays on July 31st, along with fellow OF Nori Aoki, for Franciso Liriano, the pitcher who had given up his first major league home run.

He hit .261 with eight home runs and 20 RBIs in 26 games for the Blue Jays in September, making a strong first impression.
