Jonathan Trey Brubaker was born in the Ohio city of Springfield. Every year on November 17th, the Pirates start pitcher celebrates his birthday.



JT attended New Carlisle, Ohio’s Tecumseh High School. In 2015, he enrolled at the University of Akron. He soon became a member of the college baseball squad.

In fact, in his junior season at Akron, Brubaker had a 3.63 earned run average. He also started 15 games for the year, going 5-4 with a win-loss record.

He was drafted in the sixth round of the 2015 MLB Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. In 2015, Brubaker made his professional debut with the West Virginia Black Bears.

He pitched in 15 games, with a 2.82 ERA and a 6-4 win-loss record. He began playing for the West Virginia Power and the Bradenton Marauders a year later. He made a total of 26 starts for both teams, accumulating a 4.44 ERA.

JT also spent the 2018 season with the Indianapolis Indians. For the Pirates, he was named Minor League Pitcher of the Year. He finished the season with a 10-6 record.

Brubaker made his MLB debut in the 2020 season. In his first game in the majors, he pitched two scoreless innings against the St. Louis Cardinals.
