McNair High School, he participated in football for the school’s squad. He later enrolled at the University of Missouri, where he played college football for the Missouri Tigers.

As a true freshman, he was barely present in 10 games and only made one tackle. As a redshirt sophomore, he played in 13 games and started eight of them.
