Cole Holcomb (born July 30, 1996) is an American football linebacker for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League. He participated in college football at North Carolina and was drafted by Washington, then known as the Redskins, in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
As a freshman, Holcomb joined the team as a walk-on and participated in all 14 games, mostly on special teams.
He played in 35 games over the following three seasons as he established himself as the starting middle linebacker as his playing time increased as he continued to advance and eventually received a scholarship.
When Was Cole Holcomb Drafted?
The Washington Redskins drafted Holcomb in the fifth round (173rd overall) in the 2019 NFL Draft. On May 9, 2019, he executed a four-year rookie deal.
Holcomb caused wide receiver Stefon Diggs to fumble in Week 8’s 19-9 loss to the Minnesota Vikings; Ryan Anderson recovered the ball.
In week 12’s 19-16 victory over the Detroit Lions, Holcomb had a team-high 13 tackles and one sack of Jeff Driskel.
In Week 5 of the 2021 season against the New Orleans Saints, Holcomb intercepted Jameis Winston. In Week 14, during a 27-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, he made eight stops, intercepted Dak Prescott, and returned it 31 yards for his first career score.
On December 22, 2021, he was added to the COVID-19 reserve list and had to miss the Cowboys game in Week 16. He was promoted back to the active roster on December 27.
