In college, he picked up the sport of football as a hobby. He attended Coahoma Community College in 2016 and 2017, receiving a 3.6 GPA and the Coahoma Community College Scholar Athlete Award in 2017.
He switched teams in 2018 and began playing football with the University of Colorado Buffaloes. He started 10 of the 12 games that season and racked up 57 tackles, one sack, and one score. He started each of the 12 games he played in as a senior in 2019 and finished with 72 tackles and one sack.
