He attended Cedar Hill High School, where he played football and won varsity letters for two years. He participated in defense and had 109 total tackles for the football team, earning second-team all-district honors in 2014.

He attended the University of Houston where he played collegiate football for the Houston Cougars football team as a two-star recruit straight out of high school. He participated in eight games as a redshirt freshman in 2016 and three games in 2017.

He started thirteen of the games he participated in as a starter in 2018. He started four games in 2019 before suffering a season-ending injury. In June 2020, he transferred schools and enrolled at the University of Miami, where he played football for the Miami Hurricanes. As a Miami redshirt-senior, he began each game.
