Richard Rhondel “Richie” James Jr., an American football wide receiver and return specialist for the National Football League’s New York Giants, was born on September 5, 1995. He attended Middle Tennessee to play college football.



In Sarasota, Florida, James attended Riverview High School. He dabbled in track and earned a letter in addition to playing football, earning numerous state championships. The San Francisco 49ers selected James with the 240th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

He made his first NFL reception in Week 5 against the Arizona Cardinals, going for seven yards. After returning a 97-yard kickoff in the first quarter of a win over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 14, James scored his first NFL touchdown.



James had nine receptions for 184 yards and a touchdown on Thursday Night Football on November 5, 2020, against the Green Bay Packers, surpassing both of his season totals from 2018 and 2019. But the 49ers fell short, 34-17.

James underwent knee surgery on August 27, 2021, and on August 28, 2021, the 49ers waived/injured him and put him on injured reserve. James inked a contract with the New York Giants on March 25, 2022.
