Archer was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 31, 2018, along with Tyler Glasnow, Austin Meadows, and a player who would subsequently be identified as Shane Baz.
On April 7, 2019, Archer lost to the Cincinnati Reds after allowing Derek Dietrich to hit a two-run home run in the second inning.
Dietrich remained at home plate for a little moment after the ball soared over the wall to enjoy it before he began to sprint.
In the fourth inning, Dietrich came back to the plate, and Archer threw a ball behind Dietrich’s back. Play resumed after the benches were removed, five people were expelled, and Archer struck out Dietrich.
