After graduating from high school, he made a verbal commitment to play collegiate football for Temple, but he later changed his mind and reopened his recruitment. Despite receiving offers from Baylor, Florida, Georgia, and LSU, he finally chose to play for the University of Alabama. From 2018 to 2020, he represented the Alabama Crimson Tide in collegiate football.
He made 26 tackles in 12 games as a redshirt freshman, including six tackles for loss and two sacks. He was also selected for the SEC All-Freshman team for his efforts. After recording 37 total tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, eight sacks, three forced fumbles, and three passes defensed during his redshirt sophomore season, he was selected first-team All-SEC.
He received the honor of being awarded the National Championship game’s Defensive MVP in 2021’s College Football Playoff. He declared that he would forgo his final two seasons of eligibility and sign with the NFL in the 2021 Draft. During the 2021 NFL Draft’s second round, the New England Patriots selected him.
