September 2nd was the day he hit his first base-hit of the year; by September 17th, he had managed to improve his batting percentage from 1 for 14 to 2 for 14.

Starting on September 6th, he went on a nine-game hitting, running, and RBI streak that no other rookie had ever managed. He was the first rookie to accomplish this feat.

The record for the longest sequence of consecutive wins was 12 set by Rudy York in 1940. He hit .459 (17-for-37) over that stretch, driving in 12 runs, driving in 16, and slugging 2 doubles and 6 home missiles.

In 22 games, he slugged.337 with nine home runs and 26 RBIs, earning him the American League Rookie of the Month award for September.

He finished the year with a.293 batting average. As a result, he was selected to play first base on the Topps All-Star Rookie Team for 2020.

Instead of playing first base with Albert Pujols as he had in 2018, he was soon relegated to the role of backup in 2021.

When it became clear that Walsh was outhitting Pujols by a wide margin and that Pujols had no defensive value beyond first base, the Angels made the contentious decision to part ways with the future Hall of Famer in early May.

While Pujols did improve after signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Walsh was able to make his first All-Star team appearance. This was Walsh’s first genuine full season, and he slugged.277 with 29 homers and 98 RBIs.
