The National Football League’s Washington Commanders are the team for whom Joey Slye plays as a placekicker. He was a Virginia Tech Hokies football player at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He is 1.8 meters tall and 97 kilos heavy. He attended North Stafford High. He participated in a Tampa Bay Buccaneers tryout after the 2018 NFL Draft ended without him being selected.
The Cleveland Browns also wanted to sign him, but neither organization made the choice to do so. Slye joined the New York Giants in May 2019, but was cut by the team the following month. The Giants released him three days after they re-signed him on July 24, 2019.
On September 8, 2019, he made his NFL debut after signing with the Carolina Panthers in August of that same year. In November 2021, Slye inked a contract with the Washington Commanders football team.
He sustained a hamstring injury in Week 12 against the Seattle Seahawks and was put on injured reserve the following day. Dec. 2021 saw his activation from injured reserve. Slye accepted a restricted free agent tender from the Commanders on March 16, 2022, and signed a two-year deal worth about $5 million in April 2022.
