Jose Urquidy is a Mexican professional baseball pitcher for the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball (MLB). Urquidy signed with the Astros as an international free agent in 2015 under the name of Jose Luis Hernandez and was known as such until the start of the 2019 season.
On March 2, 2015, Urquidy became a member of the Houston Astros organization after signing a contract as an international free agent.
In the same year, he made his debut in the professional ranks. In his first professional season, he pitched for both the Greeneville Astros and the Tri-City ValleyCats, compiling a combined record of 2–1 with a 3.35 earned run average over 37 2/3 innings pitched.
In 2016, he pitched for the Quad Cities River Bandits and the Lancaster JetHawks, with a record of 6–5 with a 2.94 earned run average across 24 games (21 starts).
Urquidy was out for the entire 2017 season while recovering from Tommy John’s surgery. In 2018, he made his comeback and pitched for both the Tri-City Astros and the Buies Creek Astros, compiling a record of 2–2 with a 2.35 earned run average in a total of 13 games (11 starts).
He began the 2019 season playing for the Corpus Christi Hooks but was later moved up to the Round Rock Express.
