Lane Michael Thomas was born on August 23, 1995, he is an American professional baseball outfielder for the Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played for the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Toronto Blue Jays drafted Thomas out of Bearden High School in the 2014 Major League Baseball draft. He spent four years in their minor league system before being dealt to the Cardinals in 2017.
He made his Major League Baseball debut with the team in 2019, but he struggled with injuries and was unable to get consistent playing time before being moved to the Nationals for the 2021 season, when he became their main center fielder.
Thomas was transferred to the St. Louis Cardinals on July 2, 2017 in return for international signing bonus cap space. He was sent to the Palm Beach Cardinals by St. Louis, although he only participated in nine games due to injury.
Thomas started the 2020 season with the St. Louis Blues. He tested positive for COVID-19 on August 9, it was stated. He returned to the field in October, finishing the season batting.111 with one home run in 18 games.
Thomas failed not to make the Opening Day roster in 2021. During the 2021 season, he split time between Memphis and St. Louis before being traded. Thomas was traded to the Washington Nationals on July 30, 2021, in exchange for Jon Lester.
Thomas was called up in August 2021 and quickly replaced Victor Robles as the Nationals’ starting center fielder. Thomas slashed in 45 games with Washington. 270/.364/.489 batting line with seven home runs and 27 RBIs.
