Matt Araiza, also known as Matthew Ryan Araiza, is a punter for the National Football League’s Buffalo Bills. He is 91 kg and 1.85 meters tall. On May 16, 2000, in San Diego, California, the US, he was born. At Rancho Bernardo High School, he participated in football. He had a success rate of 37 field goals as a placekicker and was twice named to the All-America team.
He turned down scholarships from Montana and the University of Massachusetts after high school in order to play collegiate football with the San Diego State Aztecs at San Diego State University. In San Diego, he worked from 2018 to 2021. During his actual rookie year, he redshirted.
As a redshirt freshman, he took over as the team’s placekicker. He set a school record by making 22 field goals in 26 attempts, earning him honorable mention All-Mountain West. He began the Aztecs’ redshirt junior season as their starting punter in addition to his kickoff duties. He was awarded an All-American by ESPN midway through the season.
He received the Ray Guy Award for becoming the best punter in the country. Araiza declared he wouldn’t participate in his final season of eligibility after the 2021 campaign and instead declare for the 2022 NFL Draft. He was chosen by the Buffalo Bills in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
