Matt Moore is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Texas Rangers of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has played in MLB for the Tampa Bay Rays, San Francisco Giants, Detroit Tigers, and Philadelphia Phillies.

Moore was born at Fort Walton Beach, Florida, on June 18, 1989. Upon his father’s transfer to Okinawa’s Kadena Air Base, where he worked on helicopters for the Air Force Special Operations Command, his family was seven years old when they made the trip.

His older brother Bobby was starting high school in Edgewood in 2000, so Moore and the rest of his family relocated there.

On a mound in their garden, the brothers of Moriarty High School would practice throwing. He drew the eye of college recruiters and professional scouts due to his explosive sophomore and junior year in high school.

He was voted Gatorade Player of the Year after leading the Moriarty Pintos to a state runner-up finish in his senior year.

Before the Tampa Bay Rays of Major League Baseball (MLB) selected him in the eighth round of the 2007 MLB Draft, Moore had committed to play college baseball at the University of New Mexico, the alma mater of his brother.
