During his senior year, Nate Wieland was selected for the all-state first team. In addition, he was named to the first team of all-conference his senior year as well as his sophomore year. Due to injuries, Wieland was sidelined for most of his junior season.
As a senior, he led the football team to an 8-3 record and the state quarterfinals while serving as a quarterback, defensive back, and linebacker for all three of his varsity football seasons. In three of the last four seasons, Wieland was instrumental in the prep team’s advancement to the state playoffs.
He is fourth all-time in career throwing yards and holds the school record for pass completions made in a single game (33) As a senior, Wieland punted for an average of 41.1 yards on 29 tries, which ranked him third in the state for Class 4A. He completed 110 of 196 pass attempts for 1,671 yards and nine touchdowns.
Wieland also rushed for 741 yards and 11 scores during his senior season. He completed 104 of 201 pass attempts for 1,093 yards and five touchdowns as a sophomore, in addition to rushing for 753 yards and scoring seven touchdowns.
As a sophomore, Wieland had a punting average of 37.9 yards on 31 attempts. He served as team captain all four years he was in high school and was a member of the leadership team for high school freshmen through seniors. In addition, he earned two letters in basketball and two in track and field, where he competed in the sprints, the high jump, and the long jump.
