Nester Cortes is a Cuban-American professional baseball pitcher for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has previously played in MLB for the Baltimore Orioles and Seattle Mariners.
In the 36th round of the 2013 MLB draft, the New York Yankees selected him. During his first season in the Gulf Coast League, he had a 0–1 record and a 4.42 earned run average (ERA) in 18+13 innings of work for the Gulf Coast Yankees. When he returned in 2014, he went 1–2 with a 2.27 ERA in 11 appearances for the team (two starts).
His rookie season in 2015 with the Pulaski Yankees of the Appalachian League yielded a 6-3 record and a 2.26 ERA (ten starts).
While pitching in the Class A South Atlantic League for the Charleston RiverDogs, the Class A-Advanced Florida State League’s Tampa Yankees, the Class AA Eastern League’s Trenton Thunder, and the Class AAA International League’s Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in 2016, he had an 11–4 record with a 1.53 ERA in 21 games (12 starts).
Cortés appeared in 30 games in 2017 with Tampa, Trenton, and the RailRiders, going 7–4 with a 2.06 ERA (13 starts).
