Professional football defensive tackle Phidarian Mathis plays for the National Football League’s Washington Commanders. He stands 1.93 m tall and weighs 142 kg. Before transferring to Neville High School, he first attended Franklin Parish High School. He has 41 tackles and seven sacks as a senior at Neville.

He played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide while he was a student at the University of Alabama. He redshirted his true freshman year of 2017 and participated in all 15 of the Crimson Tide’s contests during that time. In his 15 games of participation, he made 18 tackles and recovered a fumble, earning him a spot on the Southeastern Conference (SEC) All-Freshman team.

2019 saw him play in 12 games and compile 27 tackles, with 0.5 stops for loss. He recorded 31 total tackles the next year, with 1.5 sacks, 1.5 for loss, three pass breakups, and one forced fumble. He was selected to the second team of All-Americans and got accolades from the AFCA and the league coaches for his last season at Alabama.

His performance included two pass breakups, six quarterback pressures, 12 tackles for loss, nine sacks, and a total of nine sacks. After declaring for the draft following the season, the Washington Commanders selected Mathis with the 47th overall pick in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He inked a four-year rookie contract on June 21, 2022.
