Steven Kwan is an American professional baseball outfielder for the Cleveland Guardians of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2022.
Oregon State’s 2018 College World Series champions included Kwan. His career hasn’t slowed down since he was selected by the Indians in the fifth round of the draft in 2011.
In each of his three minor league seasons, he batted over.300 and walked more often than he struck out, and he was one of 11 minor league prospects the Guardians signed to their major – roster over the winter in order to shield them from the Rule 5 draft.
He wowed everyone at his first major league spring training camp this year with his advanced hit tool and ability to make contact consistently.
In 34 spring training plate appearances, he did not strike out and hit.469 (15-for-32) with an on-base percentage of.500 and a slugging percentage of.531 (this without walking a single time).
His three-game debut was all fans could have dreamed for, and he’s now officially part of the Guardians’ 2022 plans.
Francona pointed out that the sample size is relatively tiny, with just three games to work with. Kwan’s swing hasn’t yet been dissected by American League pitchers.
