Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals are a professional American football team based in the Phoenix metro area. The Cardinals compete in the National Football League as a member of the National Football Conference West division, and they play their home games at State Farm Stadium in the northwest suburb of Glendale.

As the Morgan Athletic Club, a Chicago-based amateur football team, the group was established in 1898. The franchise joined the NFL as a founding member on September 17, 1920. The Cardinals, the first continuously operating professional football team in the country, are one of just two NFL charter member franchises—along with the Chicago Bears—still in operation since the league’s founding.

The team relocated to their new home field in Glendale in 2006, however its corporate offices and training center are still in Tempe. From 1988 until 2012, Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff hosted the Cardinals’ yearly training camp. The Cardinals’ training camp moved from State Farm Stadium to University of Phoenix Stadium in 2013.

They’ve made the playoffs eleven times and have won seven of those games, including three in the 2008–2009 NFL playoffs. Since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, they have only won one NFC Championship Game, which they did in 2009, when they advanced to Super Bowl XLIII
