The San Francisco 49ers are an American football team that competes at the professional level and calls the San Francisco Bay Area home.
The franchise was initially established in 1946 as a charter member of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC), and after the two organizations merged in 1949, it became a member of the National Football League (NFL).
The San Francisco 49ers are the 10th oldest franchise in the National Football League and were the first major league professional sports franchise to be founded in the city of San Francisco.
The club played its first game at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco. In 1971, they moved their home games to Candlestick Park, and in 2014, they moved to Levi’s Stadium. Santa Clara has served as the home of the 49ers’ headquarters continuously since the year 1988.
