The organization was founded in 1898 as the Morgan Athletic Club, a Chicago-based amateur football team. On September 17, 1920, the team became a founding member of the NFL. Since the league’s inception, only the Chicago Bears and Arizona Cardinals have continued to regularly play football in the nation. For the following 18 seasons, the club played its home games at Sun Devil Stadium on the campus of Arizona State University after relocating west to Tempe, Arizona, a college neighborhood east of Phoenix, before the 1988 season.
The 1947 NFL Championship Game, two postseason wins during the aforementioned 2008-09 NFL playoffs, one during the 2009-10 playoffs, and one during the 2015-16 playoffs all make the Cardinals the only NFL team without a home playoff loss. Despite moving to a new home stadium in Glendale in 2006, the team’s corporate offices and training center remain in Tempe.
The annual Cardinals training camp was held at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff from 1988 through 2012. 2013 saw the relocation of the Cardinals’ training camp from State Farm Stadium to University of Phoenix Stadium.They won after seven of their eleven postseason trips, including three in the NFL postseason in 2008-2009. They have only ever won one NFC Championship Game since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, and that was in 2009 when they made it to the Super Bowl XLIII.
