The Marlins’ 40-man roster will have a quarter of the players wearing different uniform numbers than they did in major league games the previous season.
Jesus Aguilar changed to number 99. (previously No. 24). Aguilar would wear 99 for the first time during a regular season as a Marlins player. He adjusted to make room for Avisail Garcia, a new teammate.
Jess Alexander Aguilar, a first baseman with the Miami Marlins of Major League Baseball, was born in Venezuela on June 30, 1990.
Additionally, he has made appearances for the Tampa Bay Rays, Milwaukee Brewers, and Cleveland Indians. In 2018, Aguilar was an All-Star.
Aguilar joined the Cleveland Indians in November 2007 as an amateur free agent. He played for the Dominican Summer League Indians during his first two seasons.
After playing for two minor league teams in 2010, he divided the 2011 campaign between the Class A Midwest League’s Lake County Captains and the Class A-Advanced Carolina League’s Kinston Indians, hitting 23 home runs
.On February 2, 2017, the Milwaukee Brewers claimed Aguilar off waivers. Aguilar was a member of the Brewers’ Opening Day roster in 2017 after having solid spring training.
In exchange for Jake Faria, the Brewers sent Aguilar to the Tampa Bay Rays on July 31, 2019. In 37 games for the team following the move to Tampa Bay, Aguilar hit.261 with the team. He was given the go-ahead on November 27, 2019.
The Miami Marlins picked up Aguilar off waivers on December 2, 2019. In the condensed 60-game season of 2020, Aguilar batted.277/.352/.457 with eight home runs and 34 RBIs.
