In the year 1961, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim established their team. It is commonly known that they have undergone multiple name and logo changes, going from Los Angeles to California to Anaheim to Los Angeles of Anaheim.
The Angels have a track record of evolution and they were known as the Los Angeles Angels from 1961 to 1965. They changed their name to the California Angels in 1965.
The Anaheim Angels era began in 1997 and the team finally changed its name to Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2005.
The team’s name was changed to “Los Angeles” in 2005 by new owner Arturo Moreno. The team was formally renamed the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to comply with the requirements of its lease with the city of Anaheim, which stipulated that “Anaheim” must be included in the team’s name.
In order to better advertise the team internationally, the current owner Arturo Moreno changed the name to Los Angeles Angels. To maintain the “Anaheim” in its club name, the City of Anaheim had agreed to a contract with the Angels.
The Angels were sued by the City of Anaheim for the renaming. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim were created as a result. The City of Anaheim was unhappy with the complicated name but opted against continuing the appeal
