William Chandler Crowe is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He formerly played for the Washington Nationals in Major League Baseball.
Crowe went to Sevier County, Tennessee’s Pigeon Forge High School. He was drafted in the 31st round of the 2013 Major League Baseball draft by the Cleveland Guardians.
Instead of signing, he chose to attend the University of South Carolina, where he pitched for the Gamecocks.
Crowe tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his right throwing elbow while at South Carolina in April 2015, requiring Tommy John surgery by Dr. James Andrews.
Crowe spent the following two years recuperating with fellow Gamecocks pitcher Cody Morris, who hailed Crowe as “a mentor” to him during the process, despite the fact that Crowe’s elbow surgery was only a month prior.
Crowe made his pitching comeback on June 1, 2016, starting the Lexington County Blowfish’s home opener and displaying a crisp slider and a fastball that hit 95 mph.
Crowe was again taken by the Guardians in the 2016 MLB draft, this time with their 21st-round pick, however he did not sign and returned to South Carolina as a redshirt junior.
