Willie Gay Jr. joined the Kansas City Chiefs in the second round with the 63rd overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and signed a four-year $5,271,045, rookie contract with the team.



Gay, who is currently in his third season with the team, received a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy following his arrest in January 2022.

Gay started to play competitive football during his time at Starkville High School in Starkville, Mississippi. Gay was not only one of the best linebacker recruits in the United States but also the best defensive player in the state of Mississippi as a whole.



According to rankings provided by 247Sports.com, he is the second-best player in the state of Mississippi. Gay participated in the 2017 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Gay attended Mississippi State University after a successful high school career and played three seasons of college football for the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

He only participated in five games as a junior in 2019 and was suspended for eight others. He skipped his senior year and declared for the 2020 NFL Draft after the season. Gay’s college career stats include 99 tackles, six sacks, three interceptions, and one touchdown.
