Younghoe Koo was born to Seungmae Choi and Hyunseo Koo in Seoul, the nation’s capital. As a child, he played soccer and took first place in a local kicking competition. He is a South Korean-American placekicker for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League.

After going to New Jersey to live with his mother, who had immigrated there two years previously to train as a nurse while Koo’s father stayed in Seoul to work as a university professor, he attended sixth grade there.

For Ridgewood High School in Ridgewood, New Jersey, Koo participated in football. In his senior year, he contributed to both special teams and defence, as he had six interceptions, earning him the title of team MVP.

In Week 3 of the 2021 Season, Koo kicked a game-winning field goal from 40 yards out with seconds remaining to overcome the New York Giants 17-14. In Week 7’s game against the Miami Dolphins, Koo added another game-winning field goal to give the Falcons a 30-28 victory with seconds remaining. In Week 9’s 27-25 victory over the New Orleans Saints on the road, Koo kicked his third season-ending field goal.

Koo participated in American football (AAF) as a player with the Atlanta Legends, where he scored the first points in league history and made every field goal attempt up until the AAF’s indefinite suspension of play. Due to his performance, Koo joined the Falcons again the following season.

As a result of his reputation as a proficient onside kicker, which he built while playing for the Falcons, Koo was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2020. He also ranks third in the NFL for placekicking accuracy.
