Does Yuli Gurriel Have Any Kids?

Houston Astro’s first baseman Yulieski Gourriel Castillo (born June 9, 1984), better known by his nickname “La Pia,” is a Cuban professional baseball player.

Sancti Spiritus and Yokohama DeNA BayStars of Nippon Professional Baseball were his former teams (NPB). As a member of Cuba’s national squad, Gurriel won a gold medal in the 2004 Summer Olympics.

Always a versatile infielder, he’s made appearances in all three of the major league positions: shortstop, second, and third. Yulieski Gurriel, the son of former Cuban star Lourdes Gurriel, was considered the greatest player in Cuba in 2006.

MLB scouts predicted at the 2006 World Baseball Classic that Gurriel would be a first-round choice if he were to enter the draft.  In 2016, he defected from Cuba and made his MLB debut.

Gurriel became the fifth player in MLB history to win both an Olympic gold medal and a World Series championship while playing his first complete MLB season. In 2019 and 2021, he helped the team win the American League (AL) pennants.

Gurriel became the second Cuban-born player to win the AL-hitting title in 2021. In 2021, he won the American League Gold Glove Award as the league’s best first baseman, earning him the league’s oldest Gold Glove winner at the time
