Who is Yuli Gurriel?
Yulieski Gourriel Castillo is a Cuban professional baseball first baseman who currently plays for the Houston Astros in Major League Baseball.
He was born on June 9, 1984. “La Pia” is his nickname. Yuli Gurriel is a well-known name, and many people refer to him as Yuli Gurriel (MLB).
He was a member of the Cuban National Series (CNS) side Sancti Spiritus before joining the Yokohama DeNA Bay Stars of the Nippon Professional Baseball League (NPB).
Gurriel is a Cuban athlete who participated for the national team and earned a gold medal in the 2004 Olympic Games. In addition to shortstop, second base, and third base in the major leagues,
he has also played shortstop, second base and third base. He’s always been a multi-talented infielder. In 2006, Yulieski Gurriel, the son of famed Cuban great Lourdes Gurriel, was largely regarded as the best player in the country.
During the 2006 World Baseball Classic, scouts from Major League Baseball predicted that if Gurriel were eligible for the draft, he would be picked in the first round.
He moved to the United States from Cuba in 2016 and made his major league debut the following year.
During his first full season in Major League Baseball, Gurriel became only the sixth player in baseball history to win both an Olympic gold medal and a World Series triumph.
Gurriel was instrumental in the Astros’ 2017 World Series victory. He was also an important part of the team’s victory in the American League (AL) in both 2019 and 2021.
When Gurriel won the batting title in the American League in 2021, he became only the second Cuban-born player to do it.
Yuli Gurriel Contract
The Houston Astros and Yulieski Gurriel came to terms on a one-year contract for $7,000,000, with the player receiving $7,000,000 in guaranteed compensation and an annual pay that averages $7,000,000.
In 2022, Gurriel’s base pay will be $8,000,000, with an additional $8,000,000 in bonuses. A $500,000 buyout is included in the 2022 club option.
