Football, basketball, and baseball were some of the sports that Plesac excelled in during his time at Central Piedmont High School. His college baseball career began at Ball State University in 2014 when he accepted a scholarship to play for the Cardinals.

He was named the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s Rookie Pitcher of the Year after going 12–2 with a 2.11 earned run average (ERA), six saves, and 25 appearances with six starts as a freshman.



Other honors include: All-American Freshman Pitcher of the American Baseball Coaches Association and Rawlings Midwest Region Team, Freshman All-American of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, Third Team All-American for Louisville Slugger, and Freshman All-American in college baseball for Mid-American Conference.

He was selected to the All-MAC Second Team in 2015 after going 5–5 with a 3.27 ERA in 16 starts for the University of Maryland. His Cape Cod League record that year was 0-2 with an 11.88 ERA while pitching for the Wareham Gatemen.
