Zack Collins, a catcher for the Chicago White Sox, was drafted 10th overall in 2016 out of the University of Miami, where he was awarded a Baseball America All-American at the end of his junior year after being voted Baseball America Freshman of the Year the previous year.

He was transferred to the Winston-Salem Dash of the Carolina League after a few games with the AZL White Sox, where he hit .258/.418/.467 in 36 games with seven doubles and six homers, scoring 24 runs and driving in 18.

He returned to Winston-Salem in 2017. He played in the 2017 Futures Game, sharing catching responsibilities with Chance Sisco, despite his .214 batting average after 75 games.

Before the season ended, he played briefly with the AA Birmingham Barons, hitting.224/.370/.445 in 113 games with 20 doubles and 19 home runs.

Collins completed the whole 2018 season with Birmingham, hitting.234 in 122 games while displaying his power with 24 doubles and 15 home runs. He also drew 101 walks, giving him a.382 on-base percentage.

 

The Charlotte Knights promoted Zack to AAA at the start of the 2019 season.

He was hitting .250 with 9 homers after 50 games when he was called up to Chicago on June 17th, when Wellington Castillo was placed on the disabled list with a strained left oblique.
