Greinke began his professional baseball career with the Kansas City Royals and has since played with the Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Houston Astros.

Greinke was drafted sixth overall in the first round of the 2002 MLB draft by the Royals after winning the Gatorade National Player of the Year Award as a high school senior.

He debuted in the major leagues in 2004 after spending time in the minors. His battles with melancholy and anxiety nearly wrecked his career in 2005 and 2006, and he missed the majority of the 2006 season.

He returned to the starting rotation in 2007 as a reliever before returning to the starting rotation in 2008 and blossoming into one of the game’s best pitchers.

He won the American League Cy Young Award in 2009 after appearing in the MLB All-Star Game and leading the major leagues in earned run average.

He has been named to the All-Star team six times and has won the Gold Glove Award six times.

Greinke was born in Orlando, Florida, to Donald and Marsha Greinke, both teachers. He is of German origin and was a Little League player as well as a tennis and golf tournament champion as a kid.

Greinke was a member of his squad that won the Senior League World Series in 1999 as a youngster. He was a shortstop for the squad and hit close to .700 in the competition, according to his coach.

When Greinke first started playing baseball at Apopka High School, he was predominantly a shortstop. During his high school career, he hit over .400 with 31 home runs.

As a sophomore and junior, he worked as a reliever before moving up to starting pitcher as a senior. Greinke had a 9–2 win-loss record, a 0.55 earned run average (ERA), and 118 strikeouts in 63 innings during his senior season in 2002.
