Football player Zakoby attended and played at Valdosta High School in Valdosta, Georgia. He was a 4-star prospect right out of high school. He was listed as the state of Georgia’s 24th top prospect and the 13th best outside linebacker prospect overall. Over offers from LSU, Tennessee, and other universities, he decided to attend Auburn University.
From 2018 through 2021, he competed in collegiate football for the Auburn Tigers. Zakoby McClain didn’t play much during his rookie year. He started every game as a starter the next season as a sophomore, and in the 2019 Iron Bowl against rival Alabama, he had a 99-yard pick six that helped the Tigers pull off an unexpected victory of 48-45.
He had 113 total tackles in his junior season, which was the most in the country. He was chosen for the Second-Team All-SEC Team during his senior year. Zakoby declared in December 2021 that he will forego Auburn’s bowl game and instead declare for the 2022 NFL Draft. He didn’t get picked in the 2022 NFL Draft, but he signed with the Baltimore Ravens instead.
