He played running back and safety for the football team at Stansbury High School. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at Brigham Young University, where he played collegiate football for the BYU Cougars.

In his first season in 2015, he played in 8 games, mostly on special teams, and recorded 3 tackles. In his sophomore campaign in 2016, he played in all 13 games and had 11 tackles, including six solo. As a junior in 2017, he took part in 12 games, starting all 12 at safety, and recorded 61 tackles, including 41 solo stops.

The Kansas City Chiefs signed Anderson as an undrafted free agent after he went undrafted in the 2021 NFL Draft.
