Johnnie B. “Dusty” Baker Jr., a former outfielder and manager in Major League Baseball, was born on June 15, 1949. (MLB). He spent 19 seasons in Major League Baseball, most of them with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
He was a two-time All-Star with the Dodgers, winning two Silver Slugger Awards and a Gold Glove Award, as well as becoming the inaugural NLCS MVP in 1977. In addition, he appeared in three World Series, winning one of them in 1981.
Baker was the oldest of five children growing up in Riverside, California. Because of his proclivity for playing in a dirt patch in the backyard, he was given the nickname “Dusty” by his mother.
