Standing at a height of 1.96 meters, A professional baseball outfielder with the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball, Samuel Beauman Hilliard was born in the United States on February 21, 1994.
Hilliard attended Mansfield High School in Mansfield, Texas. Before moving to Crowder College, he began playing baseball at Navarro College.
He was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 31st round of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft out of Crowder, but he chose to enroll at Wichita State University instead of signing a contract.
In college, Hilliard played outfield and pitched. He spent one year at Wichita State before being selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 15th round of the 2015 MLB draft and signing.
Hilliard made his professional debut with the Grand Junction Rockies and afterward played for the Asheville Tourists in 2016, the Lancaster JetHawks in 2017, and the Hartford Yard Goats in 2018.
He participated in the Arizona Fall League following the 2018 campaign. After the 2018 campaign, the Rockies added him to their 40-man roster. He began off 2019 with the Albuquerque Isotopes.
The Rockies elevated Hilliard to the major leagues on August 27, 2019.
He faced the Boston Red Sox that evening and blasted his first major league home run off Josh Smith.
Hilliard had a disconcerting strikeout rate of 36.8 percent during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season before being optioned down to the Rockies’ secondary location when the team acquired Kevin Pillar.
