Nelson Piquet was the Formula One world champion in 1981, 1983, and 1987. He is from Brazil.

He is one of the few men in Formula One history to have won at least three world titles (the others being Juan Manuel Fangio, Jack Brabham, Jackie Stewart, Niki Lauda, Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna, and Michael Schumacher).

Piquet was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His father was a government minister who did not like him racing, so he had to use his mother’s maiden name, Piquet, to hide his identity.

After doing well in Brazilian go-karting and the local Super-V championship in 1976, he moved to Europe and was seen as a prodigy in British Formula 3.

In 1978, he broke Jackie Stewart’s record for most wins in a season, and his move to Formula One was the start of one of the best careers in the sport.

Since 1980, Piquet and Michael Schumacher, who won seven world titles, are the only two drivers to have won world titles racing for teams other than McLaren and Williams, which were without a doubt the top two teams in those decades.

This is proof of Piquet’s unique talent. Together with the Brabham team, which included team boss Bernie Ecclestone and chief designer Gordon Murray, he became a consistent contender for the world title.

In 1983, he was the first driver to win a title with a turbo engine. In 1986, Piquet moved to Williams. In 1987, he was the first driver to win a driver’s world title with a Honda engine.
