Ernest Jones is an American football linebacker with the National Football League’s Los Angeles Rams. He attended South Carolina University and played football.
Jones attended Ware County High School in Waycross, Georgia, where he grew up. As a senior, he had 112 tackles, including six for loss, two sacks, and three forced fumbles, earning him first-team Class AAAAA honors. Jones chose South Carolina over Georgia Tech and Duke.
As a freshman, Jones appeared in five games and recorded 16 tackles and a forced fumble. In his sophomore season, he earned a starting position and led South Carolina with 97 tackles. Jones was sidelined for the majority of South Carolina’s preseason workouts following an appendectomy. As a junior, he led the team with 86 tackles, five of which were for a loss.
At the season’s conclusion, Jones announced his intention to forfeit his senior season and join the 2021 NFL draft.
The Los Angeles Rams selected Jones in the third round, 103rd overall, in the 2021 NFL Draft. On July 22, 2021, Jones signed a four-year rookie contract with the Rams.
