Ketanji Brown Jackson is a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, where he has served since 2021.
Jackson attended Harvard University for college and law school, where she served as an editor on the Harvard Law Review. She was born in Washington, D.C., and reared in Miami, Florida.
She began her legal career with three clerkships, one of which was with Associate Justice Stephen Breyer of the United States Supreme Court.
She served as a district judge for the United States District Court for the District of Columbia from 2013 to 2021 before being elevated to the appellate court.
From 2010 to 2014, Jackson served as vice-chair of the United States Sentencing Commission. She has served on the Harvard Board of Overseers since 2016.
During his State of the Union address on February 25, 2022, President Joe Biden revealed that Jackson was his nominee to be an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court, filling the opening created by the retirement of Stephen Breyer.
If approved, Jackson would become the first African-American woman to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States of America
