Ketanji Brown Jackson, maiden name, Ketanji Onyika Brown is an American attorney and jurist who currently serves as a federal judge in the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

Ketanji attended Miami Palmetto Senior High School in Miami in1988. She further attended law school at Harvard University where she served as an editor on the Harvard Law Review. She graduated from the University holding The Juris Doctor degree (J.D. or JD), also known as Doctor of Law or Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D) in 1996.

From 2013 up until 2021, Ketanji served as a district judge for the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. In 2010, she was the vice-chair of the United States Sentencing Commission till 2014. She is currently a member of the Harvard Board of Overseers.



On February 25, 2022, Ketanji was nominated by the President of the United States of America, Joe Baiden, as his Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, filling the vacancy created when Justice Stephen Breyer of the US Supreme Court retired.

Ketanji’s parents, Johnny Brown, a former lawyer and Ellery Brown, former school principal at New World School of the Arts were both graduates of historically Black universities.
