Yoon Seok-youl is the Leader of People Power Party of South Korea
South Korea’s People Power Party, formerly known as the United Future Party, is a conservative political party.
The Liberty Korea Party, New Conservative Party, and Onward for Future 4.0, as well as several minor parties and political groups, merged on February 17, 2020, to establish the party.
President Park Geun-Hye was impeached in 2016 as a result of a political scandal, and numerous MPs left the ruling Saenuri Party to form the Bareun Party.
The Saenuri Party renamed itself the Liberty Korea Party (LKP), however, it was de jure deposed as the ruling party after Park’s final impeachment on March 10, 2017.
Yoon Seok-youl, the former Prosecutor General and the most popular presidential candidate in 2020, officially joined the party on July 30 which is currently South Korea’s main opposition party.
Yoon had previously been a political independent, with conservatives providing the majority of his public support.
In a brief public ceremony held at the PPP headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, Yoon was welcomed into the party by Choi Jae-Hyung, a fellow 2022 presidential candidate.
Choi was the former chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection, and he had only recently joined the PPP, having joined on July 15.
Yoon’s induction into the People Power Party was notable for the absence of newly elected party leader Lee Jun-Seok, who was out of the country at the time.
