In 1974, Mary Hurt made her stage debut in New York. For her Broadway appearances in Trelawny of the Wells, Crimes of the Heart (for which she earned an Obie Award), and Benefactors, she was nominated for three Tony Awards.
From 1971 to 1981, Mary Hurt was married to actor William Hurt. In 1983, Mary Hurt married writer/director Paul Schrader.
